Two Km south of Portimao is ‘Praia da Rocha’ - or ‘Beach of Rocks’. This is so beautiful, with silver sand stretching into the distance as far as the eye can see. The whole area is bathed in golden sunlight with huge orange/blood red rocks and cliffs rising up out of the sand like ancient monuments. The beach is massive – broad as well as long, fringed by gentle white breakwater. It starts at the new marina and Santa Cantarina fortress, which was built in the 16th century to defend the estuary of the Arade river, and seems to go on forever.

Long beautiful beach - Praia da Rocha
Praia da Rocha was one of the first seaside resorts in the Algarve. Still totally devoted to tourism, it’s a fantastic area to enjoy the many places to eat, drink, shop and explore. Its overwhelming feature is the beach – and is a must to visit. Try a most beautiful long walk of many kilometres from Praia da Rocha to Praia doVau – another superb and stunning beach and enjoy the quality of light, fresh air, sunshine, relaxation and so much more. > Find algarve golf courses in this region |
