Vilamoura is reputedly the biggest private holiday estate in southern Europe. A beautiful place, full of tall sails, blue skies and golden beaches.
Its central point is undoubtedly the spectacular marina, which can berth over 600 craft. Around the marina are fabulous luxury hotels, apartments, restaurants, a gambling casino with nightly entertainment and disco. A short walk away are ruins of a roman villa with lovely mosaics, baths, foundations of several buildings and a small museum. Also, almost all sports facilities are available to make sure you have a really fun time.
If, however, you feel like something a bit more traditional, visit the ‘old village’ with its charming Portuguese architecture incorporating all the elements of townhouses from long ago. These are located in meandering pedestrian streets and squares with pools and bright, sweet smelling, colourful gardens. Also, just inland, through fertile citrus orchards and vineyards, there are really attractive villages such as Bolequeime and Paderne – well worth a visit for their beauty and tranquillity.

Vilamoura - a golfer's dream and more
But perhaps Vilamoura is most famous for its golf. It is surrounded by four fabulous 18 hole courses (which have twice hosted the Portuguese open) with more plans for future development.
For those interested in ornithology and wildlife, a staggering 500 acres have been set aside as an environmental park offering protection and conservation to its important wetland and ecosystem which hosts a great variety of birdlife.
Vilamoura is so handy – only 20 minutes drive from Faro, 40 minutes from the Spanish border and Lisbon only 2 hours away - it is the ideal holiday destination and jumping off spot for many lovely, fascinating, interesting and beautiful places on the Algarve.
You can be sure to have a great time at Vilamoura..
